FREE THINKER

I set out to capture the essence of intellectual freedom within the confines of our everyday lives. The dark silhouette, with its crossed arms and the vertical lines in the background, came from my desire to depict the weight of societal expectations of personal struggles that can feel like bars around us. I left the figure featureless and still, almost as a blank canvas, to let viewers project their own experiences onto it— those moments when we feel bound or introspective

But the real heart of this piece is the flock of colorful birds bursting where the head should be. I painted them in bold colors, letting their wings overlap in a wild, chaotic dance, because to me, they represent the free flow of thoughts and ideas that no constraint can hold. This is what “Free Thinker” means to me: the ability to let the mind soar, vibrant and unrestrained, even when body or circumstances feel grounded. The contrast between the dark, quiet figure and the lively birds is intentional-it’s that tension I wanted to highlight, showing how our inner freedom can rise above the external world. I hope this piece inspires others to embrace their own free thinking, to see the beauty of their minds taking flight and not simply following the thoughts of others but to truly be able to form independent ideas based on all of the information we gather.
