-STORY BEHIND THE ART-
Started during Covid-19 lockdowns, this piece reflects the other side of the fear and uncertainty we all faced during that time.
Back in 2020, when the world paused, like most, I felt trapped, grounded by the unknown, with a heavy sense of unease weighing me down.
I would observe the birds flying around so free and unbothered singing their songs and going ahppily about their day, and I envied them in that moment. That inspired me to start painting birds, lots of birds to try and capture that sense of lightness and freedom.
Birds in flight often hold a universal symbol of freedom, independence, optimism and the ability to rise above challenges. This is the message I hoped to convey within the painting.
Each bird, stands for all of us—unique and so diverse like the patterns, yet bound together by that shared struggle as depicted in their woven wings.
The white background has a dual meaning, echoeing the emptiness and anxiety of lockdown, but also a breath of fresh air, letting the birds’ bright hues pop, symbolizing the light in hopes for brighter days ahead.
For me, this painting is about rising above that stifling uncertainty, drawing strength from our collective endurance, and celebrating the joy of moving forward together. It’s a tribute to how we weathered the storm, adapted, and eventually spread our wings again.
In the end, its overall message being that one of joy, positivty, freedom and optimism for life in general.
